Form 1099-MISC differs from Form 1099-NEC in one distinct way. A business will only use a Form 1099-NEC if it is reporting nonemployee compensation. If a business needs to report other income, such as rents, royalties, prizes, or awards paid to third parties, it will use Form 1099-MISC.
What 1099 should I use?
If you receive an award and the payment was $600 or more during the year, you should receive a Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Income. The 1099-MISC will show the amount of the award in box 3, Other Income. There is no withholding on this payment unless you failed to provide your taxpayer identification number.
Is 1099’s the same as 1099 B?
